The AIA New Zealand Our Future Workplaces project involves the design and construction of a modern, flexible workspace for approximately 800 employees at Smales Farm, Northcote, Auckland. This initiative represents more than a simple building upgrade—it is a significant advancement in how AIA empowers its people to embody the company’s purpose: Helping New Zealanders live Healthier, Longer, Better Lives.

The change strategy was developed to design and implement a workplace change management programme that assists staff as they transition from an outdated office environment and traditional working methods to a contemporary setting featuring flexible, mobile work zones, quiet spaces, advanced technology, ample natural light, and dedicated wellbeing areas. Every aspect has been thoughtfully designed with AIA staff in mind to ensure the new workplace offers choice and supports individuals to thrive.

Assessment and coaching was provided to ensure alignment of brand, culture, and new work practices, embedding Our Future Workplaces as a core component of the new Smales Farm environment. Internal teams received comprehensive support through a robust communication and engagement strategy, enabling them to effectively lead and manage their people in alignment with the programme.

In addition, guidance and mentorship was provided to the facilities team to develop a coordinated relocation process, ensuring all business units experienced a seamless transition from three temporary Auckland sites into the newly refurbished workspace and facilitating the decommissioning of each site in preparation for lease termination.
